Hi everyone and welcome to the July 2025 issue of the LDG Newsletter.
It’s been a busy quarter for the LDG and we seem to have sprung into life with the better weather.
May saw many of us ringing bells to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day on the 8th as well as the Whitbread Cup being held at Sapcote. Congratulations to all involved in the organisation of this event and especially to the members of the Leicester Band which won!
It has been a pleasure to see the Loughborough District fully functional again in this quarter: Susie Scales has stepped up and taken on the District Secretary role which has enabled this to happen, with a very well attended first meeting and AGM at All Saints in Loughborough.
I am aware that there have been lots of outings and socials going on, thanks to all the organisers and attendees. One that for me deserves a special mention is the Leicester School of Ringing and Progressive Ringers trip to London which was organised by Lewis Benfield and Karen Allen. It was a great chance for some of our new and improving ringers to grab hold of a rope in some of the famous towers in London on King Charles’ Official birthday. I particularly enjoyed St Martins in the Field and the Red Arrows fly by at lunch was a nice addition to the tour.
We are looking for nominations for the Alan Jacques Award – a link to the new ‘easy to use’ web based form is on the Guild website – many thanks to our new Education Committee Chairman (Jez Bowman) and Secretary (Emma Lovegrove) for making the nomination process so much easier than using Word Docs – the new ‘Jotforms’ are very quick and simple to use, even I can manage them!
I hope you enjoy your ringing through the summer months and have a good holiday season.
