January Newsletter 2024

Welcome to the latest issue of Ringing Round Leicestershire.

At the new year we often think about activities and habits that we do, and plan ways to change and improve our lives. The theme that is running throughout the articles in this newsletter is precisely that. Whether it is improvements in the church building that we ring in, such as Leicester Cathedral which recently reopened following the completion of the first phase of its renovation work, or improvements in our own ringing, as can be seen in the work of the Leicester School of Bellringing.

We congratulate ringers who have achieved milestones, whether it is achieving a level in ART’s Learn the Ropes, ringing their first quarter peal, or completing ringing quarter peals all the standard eight surprise major; and we celebrate the dedication of those who work hard to support ringers at all levels.

This issue also marks the departure of Sally Brown as guild president, and we welcome Pete Brown (no relation) as he takes up his position in that role. I’m sure everyone will join with me in thanking Sally for her hard work over the past four years, and we look forward to seeing how Pete will take on the challenges of the next three.
