Ringing in the media

There has been a lot of interest in the Ring for the King campaign in the last few months, even gaining the attention of mainstream media such as the BBC and ITV.

An early morning filming call was answered by ringers in Birmingham, with a couple of segments appearing on BBC Breakfast.

ITV also did a piece, this time from Guernsey: https://www.itv.com/news/channel/2023-03-16/bell-ringing-novices-learn-to-ring-for-the-king-ahead-of-coronation

BBC Radio Oxford presenter Anna Gray has taken up the challenge of learning to ring for the coronation, and a series charting her progress can be found here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0f715v4

The Ring for the King campaign also appeared in the Daily Mail. This is actually a really nice article, accurate and at the same time summing up the real atmosphere found in towers across the country: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11824315/Campaign-seeks-Britains-38-000-church-bells-ringing-Kings-coronation.html

Unfortunately, the bells at Horsham in Sussex made an appearance in their local newspaper due to an incident whilst teaching new Ring for the King recruits. Thankfully no-one was hurt, but one of the bells was broken at the crown: https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/news/people/freak-accident-hits-horsham-bellringers-coronation-plans-to-ring-for-the-king-4062273

Closer to home, Charnwood Borough Council produced a video on the casting of the Hope bell at Taylors. This is a bell cast in response to the pandemic, as a memorial and reminder, and looking to hope for the future.

The Leicester City Police popped into St Margaret’s as part of their patrols, and managed to catch Chris and had a tour of the tower:
