Beer and Bells at Harby

Work is progressing behind the scenes at Harby with the faculty application now ‘in progress’, and fundraising has started for our restoration project.

The Diocese have requested a structural survey to ensure the tower won’t collapse with the addition of the extra bell, and training bells, and this is booked in with Adrian Dempster on 4th October.

The church held a beer festival on 22/23 September, which was a great community event, bringing many people into the church who otherwise may not.  The bellringers hosted the Melton District monthly meeting in the morning, serving drinks, cakes and bacon/sausage cobs.

In the afternoon we held a Teddy Bear parachute/zipline event, which brought families to the church. This was well supported with lots of people watching the bears descending.  We only lost one in a tree, and 2 on the church roof, but they were quickly recovered. With thanks to the Stoney Stanton ringers for allowing us to use their parachutes and accessories.

Both these events gave us a chance to show off our new polo shirts, designed by Nick, one of our ringers.

The church held a Harvest Supper on 25th September, and the bellringers ran the raffle.  The whole weekend generated a useful £500 for our bell fund.
