President’s Message – October 2025

Dear members, welcome to the autumn edition of the LDG Newsletter.

September saw the LDG’s biggest event of the year with the weekend ringing course based at Copt Oak but involving numerous towers around the county. With 22 students we were able to run courses from Plain Hunt to Cambridge Minor. Many thanks to Mark Pendery and all of the team who spent months organising this event and to all the helpers at the towers, without whom we could not run the course. .

In 2026 the LDG will be celebrating 80 years since it was established from the former Midland Counties Association. As part of my role I have launched an “LDG@80” initiative to help set the direction for the LDG through 2026 and beyond.

Our planned celebrations so far will include a meal in February, a Ceilidh in June and a month of focused ringing in October. We are also planning to have commemorative merchandise. There will be more information on these events soon.

Another area of the LDG@80 initiative is to look to establish a more up-to-date solution to handling membership and member data. Other neighbouring Guilds have successfully moved onto a platform called MemberMojo which may be a viable option for our Guild. We are intending to run a pilot to see if it is feasible.

Our AGM is coming up on the 25th of October with ringing planned at newly refurbished Tilton on the Hill and Ashby Folville before the tea and AGM at Ashby village hall. Details will have been sent to you by email via your District Secretary. If for some reason this has not been received let me know (at president@leicesterdg.org.uk) and I’ll send a copy. This is your opportunity as a Guild member to help shape our future so I do hope to see you there.

(editor’s note: details of the AGM can be found elsewhere in this newsletter.)

A bit closer to my home the project to rehang, augment and install training facilities at Harby in the Vale of Belvoir is well underway, I volunteered to help on a few days recently and was lucky enough to be there when the bells arrived back from Taylors and helped unloading them into the church.  Well done to Jonathan Dickinson for organising the project and getting the grants to implement it including one from the BRF. We are looking forward to ringing the bells again once they are all installed.
