Rosie Mason has sent these images of hand-drawn records of the peal rung at the Cathedral in celebration of VE Day in 1945. She writes:
I have attached the two pictures one from my Mother’s peal book – Jill Poole later to become Mrs Peter J Staniforth. The other from my Grandmother’s book Mrs Harold J.Poole. it is the same peal which was conducted by my Grandfather Harold J. Poole.
The calligraphy work was carried out by Ernest Morris- the selection of flags is from my Mother’s book and the Union Jack from my Grandmother’s.
At the time, all of both their successful peals were recorded in this way, with no repeating of designs by Ernest.

There is also a certificate at Desford tower, also drawn by Ernest Morris. On 8th June 1946, a year and a month after VE Day, a Victory parade was held in London. There is no record of ringing at Desford to mark VE Day in 1945, but they rang a quarter peal on Victory Day in 1946, which was recreated this year to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and as in the original, the band were all local ringers.
