Our team has been working on a new feature on the Towers pages on the Guild website – and by our team, I mean Dan has been working hard interpreting my sketch diagram of what I wanted, with Mark assisting where needed!
Introducing the Photo Gallery
Each tower has a page, featuring all the relevant information about ringing at that church, a map of its location, and a photograph of the tower. We are now introducing a gallery for the images, which means we can have any number of photos or videos relevant to that tower. This was always an aim of mine, particularly for showing the access to the ringing room. I am aware that not every ringer can leap and bound their way up the various staircases, ladders and steps into ringing rooms like a mountain goat, and knowing what to expect helps when people are choosing where to ring. A description of spiral staircase doesn’t always mean a nicely enclosed stone stairway!

But it also means we can have multiple images for each tower, scenic views of the church in different seasons, the ringing room, the bells, any interesting features that makes the church unique. It would also be nice to include any historic images, so visitors to the website can see how things used to look.
Send us your images
Visiting all the towers in the Guild to fill up the Galleries with images would be a mammoth task, so for the time being many of them will just have the one photo of the church. If you have any photos that you would like to be included, please use the “submit image” button on the relevant tower page to send them to us. Pictures of the ringing room, the access to the ringing room, and the bells themselves are all welcome. Please check with anyone who appears in any photo that they are happy for it to go on the webpage. All photos will be moderated before being allowed to appear online.
