Obituary – Alan Wright

It is with sadness that we inform you of the death of Alan Wright (81) who passed away on Saturday 27th April.

Alan was well respected in the Loughborough District particularly by his friends and ringing colleagues in The Kegworth & Hathern Benefice; where he was a stalwart ringer at services in our local churches.

Alan was originally taught to ring by Tom Harris at Hathern Church, where he and his wife (Hilary) resided after they were first married.  He did have a break from ringing for a while after he moved out of the village; but subsequently returned when he learned that Hathern was short of ringers.

His love of ringing extended to care and maintenance of bells and ringing chambers and he would be the first to offer help if the bells required refurbishment or repairs.  He greatly enjoyed the social side of ringing and eagerly participated in outings (sometimes driving the bus) and regularly offered his unique perspective during dissection of the evening’s practice at the pub afterwards!

He will be greatly missed for his friendship, quick wit, repartee and kindness to others.
