Melton District
This quarter Melton District meetings were at Eaton and Saltby, the planned meeting at Twyford on 16th Sept was cancelled as it clashed with the LDG ringing course and rescheduled to 23rd to support the Harby beer and bells festival that weekend. Thanks to everyone who supported these meetings and it has been great to see some of our newest ringers who have been learning at Harby, Saltby (and Grantham) come along to these meetings.
Diana Foord celebrated her 90th birthday in August. To mark the occasion the Melton ringers headed to St Mary’s church on the 15th August for a birthday party and ring . It was quite the gathering of ringers to help Diana celebrate.
A half muffled quarter of mixed doubles was rung at Twyford on Friday 8th September to mark the passing of Charles Bishop. He had been a friend to some of us in the tower and will be sadly missed.

Bottesford tower had limited ringing for a while whilst cracks in the tower were investigated. Thankfully the tower is now back in full swing (pun intended) and David Jones has started bi-monthly Surprise Major practices. All are welcome, the next session is on Saturday 28th October from 10:00 to 12:00.

Hinckley District
The September meeting of the District took the form of afternoon ringing at Kirby Mallory with tea and evening ringing at Barwell. The very sunny day drew a crowd, including several visitors to Kirby Mallory. The traditional ‘ringer’s tea’ was provided at Barwell thanks to Michael Pickering and his helpers. The fresh strawberries and raspberries with cream were very well received, as were the home made cakes thanks to Tony Rowan and Lynette Angrave. The evening ringing catered for all from rounds and calls to Surprise Major. We rounded off with a visit to the Queens Head where we had the usual refreshments in their yard. An excellent day for all.
