Farewell to Mick Vernon

A fond farewell to a loving, lovable and much-loved man

On 7th August 2022 St Michael’s Church, Stoney Stanton, was filled to over-flowing as members of the church community, hunting community, village community and ringing community joined together in a memorial service with his family to say a final fond farewell to Michael (‘Mick’) Vernon.

Family members had gathered from across the globe, and Mick’s brother Ian spoke entertainingly about the life Mick had created for himself and his family, while the Rector spoke of Mick’s devotion to his family, his church, and his village. A video was played showing clips of Mick’s life and the service culminated with a hunting friend blowing the ‘Gone Away’ call.

Open ringing took place before the service, culminating in a very tidy touch of Grandsire Triples, and a touch of Cambridge was rung afterwards.

The ringing community were represented by 29 ringers (past and present), including some Mick taught, and he will be greatly missed
