In the Wider Ringing Community

Fun with bells

The next Fun With Bells podcast is imminent. The subject of this episode is all to do with clothing, and is to feature our own Lianne Brooks talking about her recent experience of ringing in 1912 style clothing at the Desford Heritage Festival.

The episode is due to go live on 13th October, and a list of episodes can be found here: https://funwithbells.com/about-fun-with-bells/episodes/

New YouTube video

The Central Council have released a new YouTube video. Aimed at younger audiences, it shows Guides and Scouts visiting a local tower. This would be ideal to show younger people who are interested in finding out more about ringing.

New online resource

The Central Council Stewardship & Management Workgroup are pleased to announce Belfry Upkeep, an online document aimed at the Steeple Keeper – the person responsible for keeping the bells in order. The aims of the document are:

·         To help you understand the installation in your tower

·         To describe the checks you should carry out to identify any problems

·         To advise you on the maintenance tasks that you should be able to carry out, possibly with expert advice or assistance

·         Most importantly, to help you recognise the tasks that require specialist knowledge from a Bell Hanger or other expert

The document can be found at https://belfryupkeep.cccbr.org.uk

Mobile Belfry

As seen in the report from the Ringing Roadshow, was the unveiling of the new mobile belfry, being spearheaded by the Central Council. The belfry has been designed in order to make it as easy as possible to take bells out into the community to showcase what bellringing is all about. There was recently a crowdfunder, which successfully raised over £8500 towards the costs.
