President’s Message: April 2024

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest edition of the LDG Newsletter, spring finally seems to be with us and alongside the glamorous duties of being President I also cut the lawns for St Andrews Church in Twyford which was looking great after the first cut of the season this week!

It’s been a busy first quarter, the very first weekend we had a quarterly Guild Meeting with ringing at Wanlip and Birstall and a great lunch at the White Horse in Birstall. Many thanks to Rebecca Odames for organising the day, it was very enjoyable.

In February we had the LDG Annual Dinner at the Leicester Cricket Club which was great night out – many thanks to Carol for organising it, Mick Angrave for being the Toast Master and Terry & Kate for organising the giant games at the end of the evening that got everyone out of their seats.

In March Howell had organised the Midlands Young Ringers contest at the Oaks in Charnwood, we were lucky with the weather and had a good day for 9 youth teams to ring in this competition. The Foundry Foxes were first up and rang a 180 of Bob Doubles very well but at the end of the day the winners of the method competition were Worcester (with a little help borrowing Dexter from the Foundry Foxes to ring with them!).  Congratulations to Howell / Sally and all the people involved in the event and the training of the Foundry Foxes to put in such a good performance.  Next year Nottingham have volunteered to organise this event.

I’m pleased to say that we have a team that have volunteered to organise the 2024 LDG Ringing Course which will be at Copt Oak Memorial Hall again this year. This takes a huge amount of work and the team that are organising it are kicking it off in April to give them enough time to get plans in place – watch out for the invites for this and register quickly if you are interested as it’s a first come first served basis.

I hope you enjoy your next quarter of ringing, now that the weather is warming up you can afford to dispose of the woolly hats and inadequate tower fan heaters that have kept us going through the winter!

Guild President
